During Older American Month, a month dedicated to appreciate and celebrate the vitality and aspirations of older adults, Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island reached a milestone.
On May 15th, Governor Chafee delivered the agency’s 17 Millionth meal to Mrs. Clara Ramos of Providence.  Mrs.Ramos has been receiving meals from Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island since 2007 when she became ill and was unable to cook for herself.  Mrs. Ramos has lived her whole life in Rhode Island, and at 80 years young, raised 12 children, has 26 grandchildren (4 of whom she adopted) and 41 great-grandchildren.   Mrs. Ramos was a cook for a Providence soup kitchen for many years and says, “Governor Lincoln visting with Clara Ramos after delivering agency's 17 Millionth Meal.I wish I could still give back and provide for those in need”.
Now we can give back to Mrs. Ramos
“This is a proud day for us” says Heather Amaral, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island.  “We could never have reached this wonderful milestone without so much support from our volunteers, donors, corporate and community partners, board members and staff”.
