Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island pleased to announce that an eighth Capital City Café site is now available to Rhode Island seniors for socialized dining at Grace Apartments, 280 Washington St., grace_apartment_1Providence.
Meals at Grace Apartments are served at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Meals on Wheels of RI’s Capital City Café Program provides more mobile seniors daily dining options in eight community sites in the Providence area, including an ethnic site and an LGBT-friendly site.
The program—which provides participating seniors improved nutrition and a socialization opportunity that is vital to their health—is open to any Rhode Island resident aged 60 or older. Interested seniors need only to fill out an enrollment form and then make a reservation at least 24 hours in advance at their chosen café site each time they wish to dine there.
Rhode Islanders living with disabilities in a housing facility where a café site operates also are eligible for the program and transportation is available to the nearest dining location to a participant’s residence.
Each meal meets one-third of the daily nutritional requirement for seniors and is approved by a registered dietician.
grace_apartment_3The program also offers a range of free monthly Wellness Workshops in partnership with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island during the lunch meal at the café sites.
Seniors also may enjoy an evening meal at St. Elizabeth’s Place, 700 Westminster St., Providence, on Tuesdays at 5 p.m.
Reservations for this meal must be made two weeks in advance.
While there is no charge for the program, a $3.00 donation per meal is suggested.
