Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island has received a $3,000 grant from the Rhode Island Foundation to provide vital home-delivered meals and daily safety checks to Barrington seniors and homebound residents.
The grant was issued through the foundation’s Barrington District Nursing Association Fund. In 2016, Meals on Wheels of RI provided 4,792 meals and critical social services to 41 Barrington residents.
“This enables us to provide daily nutritious meals, safety checks and socialization to those for whom our help is a lifeline,” said Executive Director Heather Amaral. “Many of our clients are in danger of missing a meal or experiencing health and safety issues due to isolation, frailty and poverty. For those who live alone or are homebound, our volunteer may be the only person our client sees on a regular daily basis.”
