Judy Gould has been Meals on Wheels of RI’s medical billing clerk since October 2014. In addition to ensuring that the roughly 17 percent of our clients who are eligible for waivers or health care assistance through Medicaid/Medicare receive their meals, Judy also assists the Home-Delivered Department in ensuring our clients’ safety by connecting them with an emergency contact or service when they do not answer the door for their daily meal delivery.
Years at Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island: 3.5
What interested you in working for the agency?
Gould: I was a caregiver for my mother, who lived with me for five years before she passed away. That time with my mom taught me so much about how the elderly feel and what they deal with in their everyday lives. I really enjoy talking with them and being able to help them in any way possible.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Gould: The best feeling I could ever have is when I am able to help someone. There have been many times where I have had to call a client’s family member because that client did not answer when our volunteer went to deliver a meal. Sometimes, it’s because the client has fallen and cannot get up on their own for help and the family member I called is able to get to them and get them medical care.
Working here is also a wonderful experience because I really enjoy everyone I work with. We have such caring and loving employees here, and I feel it is like my second home. And, I know my mom would be proud of me.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Gould: I really love spending time with my granddaughter, going for walks and reading.
