What interested you in working for the agency?
At my last position, I won a contest designing an employee volunteer implementation plan. My idea was that employee would have a number of paid hours off per quarter to volunteer in the community (in Needham, Mass.), and one organization we selected was the Council on Aging that ran the local Meals on Wheels program. When I was looking for a job closer to home to spend more time with my family—my youngest is just nine—something clicked when I saw this position advertised. I liked that I would still be able to help that senior population.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Whenever I mention to someone I know outside of the office that I work at Meals on Wheels of RI, they always have a personal story about the organization. Just recently, my daughter’s principal told me that several years back, a Meals on Wheels of RI delivery driver saved her aunt’s life. She had fallen and couldn’t get up. If it wasn’t for the driver…it makes me feel at home here when people tell me about the positive impact we make.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Spending time with family and friends and riding my Harley when I get the chance. Traveling and gardening are also favorites.
