PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island proudly announces the appointments of Dr. Marylou Buyse, Chief Medical Officer, Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island; Michael Monty, Director of Corporate Finance, Twin River Worldwide Holdings, Inc.; and Elizabeth Phillips, Esq., partner, Hackman & Phillips Elder Law RI, LLC, to its board of directors.
“Now in its 51st year, Meals on Wheels of RI remains the only nonprofit home-delivered meal program of its kind in the state, providing nearly 1,200 homebound seniors with the nutrition and socialization they need to remain living independently,” said MOWRI Executive Director Meghan Grady. “Now, we are preparing for a future where our services will be in much greater need and, together, Dr. Buyse, Michael and Elizabeth bring a wide breadth of experience that will compliment that of our existing board members as we continue our efforts to expand our work.”
Dr. Buyse joined NHPRI in December 2018 and provides clinical leadership for all medical management and evaluation and improvement and as well as overseeing pharmacy and behavioral health service operations and the Department of Primary Care, which includes Health@Home.
A Greenville resident, Dr. Buyse has served on various boards, committees and commissions, including the Massachusetts Health Council, Massachusetts Cost and Quality Council and the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium. She finished her residency and fellowship at LAC-USC Medical Center in Los Angeles and is board-certified in pediatrics, medical genetics and medical management.
In his current role, Monty, a Providence resident, is focused on acquisitions and the strategic growth of Twin River Worldwide Holdings, a NYSE-listed company that owns and operates casinos in Rhode Island, Delaware, Mississippi, and a horse track in Colorado.
Monty previously served as a Captain in the U.S. Army, where he was an Infantry Officer and Company Commander. He served in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom as an Infantry Platoon Leader and received a Combat Infantry Badge. He graduated from Ranger School, Airborne School and Air Assault School. Monty holds a bachelor of science from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and an MBA from The Yale School of Management at Yale University.
A native Rhode Islander and Warwick resident, Phillips co-founded Hackman & Phillips Elder Law RI, LLC in 2011 and has been practicing law since 2007. At her firm, she specializes in estate planning, special needs planning, Medicaid planning, probate and trust administration, guardianships, and consumer bankruptcy law.
Phillips is an active board member of the Rhode Island Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and is a member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners. She does pro bono legal work for the Rhode Island Bar Association’s Elderly Pro Bono Program and AIDS Project Rhode Island.
